Starting a Chapter of CFR in your Church

Several things you need to know first:

  • Local Evangelism  CFR grew out of a desire to provide local SCBC churches with an additional avenue for evangelism. We recognize the opportunities that exist for using motorcycles to share the Gospel with unreached members of the local community who ride motorcycles. If your church has a desire to respond to this need and opportunity, CFR has formed the basic framework to get you started and provide support for your chapter as it continues to grow.

  • Accountability  We believe the ministries that are most effective over the long run are those that operate under the cover of the local church. Jesus instituted the local church as his strategy for reaching the world. Every Chapter of CFR is directly affiliated with a local church and is accountable to the pastor and ministry team from that church.

  • Autonomy    Because we do believe in the priesthood of mankind through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, every local chapter of CFR is autonomous, just like the different chruches that make up the Southern Baptist denomination are independent and autonomous. If a group of riders from one church feels led to participate in a minstry, they are free to do so. The various local chapters do not work under the authority of Regional or State Coordinators. Regional and State Coordinators are in a service role only to support and encourage the local chapter and assist as requested.

  • Cooperation   One of the ties that bind Southern Baptists and SCBC churches together is a spirit of friendly cooperation. Programs like the Cooperative Giving have enabled us to send missionaries from local associations and do good works for the glory of God. This same spirit prevails in and through CFR. Each local chapter works together with other local chapters on projects and ministires of their choosing and all are free and even encouraged to work closely with other motorcycle ministries. Cooperation is important to the success of CFR in both evangelism and discipleship.

  • "It' Not What You Ride...It's Who You Serve"   CFR motorcycle ministry is not a brand specific ride group. Our goal is to share the love and message of Christ with those around us. Chapter members should invite and reach out to the entire motorcycle community regardless of the brand of motorcyle they ride. Brand bashing will not be tolerated within CFR.

If this interest you and you desire to start a chapter of CFR, these are the steps:

  1. Begin with prayer. Know that this is what the Lord is leading and directing you and your church to do.
  2. Share your vision with your Pastor. The Pastor, as the leader of the chruch, must understand and share in your vision to reach and minister to the biker/motocycle community.
  3. Decide on how the ministry will be finacially supported - church budget, donations, offerings etc.
  4. Form a leadership team with individuals who share a common vision and passion for the ministry. Meet to develop a mission/purpose statement that will clearly communicate the goals and visions specific to your individual chapter.
  5. At this point, contact us at dmob@sc.rr.com and/or by calling 843-992-0836. A chapter application will be sent to you. Upon completion of the application and endorsement/approval by your pastor and an appointment of a staff liaison, you will recieve your Chapter Start-Up Pack including the Chapter Manual, Chapter Charter Certificate and additional resource materials to get your started.
  6. Be creative with your ministry. Plan events and activities that are interesting and will attract people outside the chapter and the church that are in search of a place of acceptance where they can be ministered to and discipled.
  7. Spend time promoting your ministry to your church body and the community through church bulletins, newsletters, websites etc.
  8. Establish a monthly meeting time and location where the group can come together for planning and fellowship.
